How is suspense built into the story?

In my book "Bad" the suspence starts building up in the begining of the book. In the first chapters of the story Dallas, the main character, starts to build the suspence by hanging around the wrong people. This is starts to influence her into doing bad things and start behaving bad. One thing is for sure in the first chapters it says her mother is not in her life so I think this puts more pressure on her to do bad and listen to her friends more. Dallas starts to disrespect her father. In my opinion I think that since she didn't really have a female role madel or a mom to look up to she looks up, she might think it feels ok to do what her friends do because of that. Another thing that leads to the suspence of the climax is that Dallas starts hanging around this boy named Ray and he influences her to do bad. With Ray telling her what to do and her friends supporting Ray to make Dallas do wrong she gets into trouble by robbing the store with a gun.

My picture relates to the suspence that happens because in the story because Dallas gets arrested by police because she was robbing the store at gun piont rage just like the man in my picture so thats when the suspence happens and then she gets sent to juvie for the crime she commited.

Do you relate to your main character? How and why?

I relate to my main character in not many ways. I'm a good girl and the main character Dallas in the book "Bad" is not so good. Ever since her mother died she has been around negative people. She starts to hang out with this boy named Ray and eventually becomes her boyfriend. Dallas's father thinks Ray is a bad influnce on her. On the begining part of the book Dallas commits a crime and gets sent to "GRC." Me, as a person never done any thing bad. I have never disrespected my partens and never will. But we do have one thing in common. I sometimes hang around people that give me bad influnces, just like Dallas. Then later on during the day I have a temptation of doing whats wrong but I always think of what going to be the consequence. In some occassions I act without thinking. When I'm at those times I'm just like Dallas; I don't think about my father or mother and what there going to think or say about my actions. Me and Dallas have some negative things in common and we do relate.

My link relates in a different way but it explaines the same thing just like Dallas at one point she was a good girl that obeyed her parents then she started to "obey" [listen] to Ray and things got bad. King Neptune is supposed to be a good King but when he "obeys" plangton he dose bad and wants to kill Spongebob.

                                                    Dear Han Nolan,
I am reading the book "If I should die before I wake." I have just read the first few pages. I think the beginning is really great. I love the dialogue and how it tells the story. I could see that its going to be about the Nazis and a story about this girl, Hilary's life. From what I've read so far its going to probably tell me about the Holocaust too and how Hitler wanted to kill the Jews. Well I haven't read a lot to tell you more. I just have a couple of questions. One question I have is why does ti seem that Hilary hates the Jews so much if she hasn't meet one. my second question is why does she kind of have a bad vibe of her teachers and how Hilary says that, "Teachers, they're the worst"? Why is she so negative is it because their Jews or did they do something to her? I suppose that she should become more nicer so that she could be a better person and I think throughout the book she'll have more friend and also have better communication with other people around her and maybe later in the book(story) she'll start talking to Jews. I recommended this book for people who like reading about history and like someones life about the Holocaust.

New inde. reading book(3rd one):: BAD

I just started reading the book "Bad" by Jean Ferris. To me the beginning is amazing. It talks about this girl that lives with her father because he mother had died. She doesn't listen to her fathers wishes of being a good girl so she gets caught steeling a store with friend. At the end those "friends" aren't there to take the blame with her. She is the only one that gets caught and she gets caught with the gun. She gets sent to juvie. That's all I have read. I'm excited to see what interesting stuff awaits in this book. In my opinion I really think it is a mavelous book and I've just read the first few page. I predict that it will just get more interesting and it will start talking about all her miseries and mistakes she has regret.

The End of: The Skin I'm In

I liked the book "The Skin I'm In" and how "powerful" it was. To me it had excellent dialogue.  I love how it explained how Maleeka felt and the attitude she had. It told that she is kind of a sassy girl. Even though its a short book I learned a lot about her life and how it connected to mine. The book got my attention quick because its about a girl that's in JR. high and had many problems just like us teenagers. We as students in high school like to read book that talk about someone our age and how we can relate. At the end of the book to me it was a shocking ending that she was going to stand up for herself and tell on Char that it was her idea about the indecent. It was a amazing/shocking ending but I can't give out anymore details because you just have to read it and find out....;]:]

Connections to "The Skin I'm In"

The book I'm reading is called "The Skin I'm In." The main character of the book is Maleeka. She is bullied because of her very dark skin. Maleeka really hates it because kids at school tease her about it. She is also teased about the clothes her mom makes for her, since her father died and they now are poor. I think I can compare to her in a different matter. Maleeka lost her father and now has to wear what her mom makes her and like me, since my grandfather died its been kind of the same. the difference is that my mom doesn't make my clothes, I just have to wear the same thing every week. It's like she hardly buys me things since my grandfather died because he was like my dad when my real dad was at work. For example, we had a strong relation ship. He took care of me since I was 11 months old and ever since then my parents have to work so I would stay with my grandfather. My lifes' story is similar to Maleekas except my was my grandfather and hers was her father. And she had to wear what her mom made her and I wear the same thing every week.

i finished reading my other book

I finished reading my book called the boy from the basement.
I thought I was a really good book. I would recommend it to
any one who likes reading books. In the book at the end Charlie
was sent to a foster family and was going to get help to move on.
He was going to get help from a psychologist and his new and
loving foster family. At the end he doesn't have to worry about
his father and his abuse that Charlie didn't even know he was
getting by his father. And now he doesn't have to worry about
the basement either or the spider. At the beginning of the book I didn't think that he was going to get help he needed but he did and I was glad that he mad the mistake going into the street while he was locked out of his house. If he would have never gone behind his fathers back and leave the basement he would have never knew who he was.

Febuary 25. What I'm Reading.....

I am reading the book called "The Skin I'm In" by Sharon G. Flake.I choose this book because I thought it would be interesting to read. Also I really like to read books that are kind of sad sometimes or I like to read books that talk about misery. I think this book is kind of misery because Maleeka dislikes her skin and the way it looks on her. In my opinion this is misery because people make fun of her at school and she doesn't like it. Also what I've read so far, I know that her father has died and after his death she is raised by her mother. Her mother doesn't have much money to buy her new clothes so she is stuck wearing the same clothes every week. I do feel sad for her because she does go to school and that's were they make fun of her more.

REACENT INDE. READING BOOK: The Skin I'm In

Well, this book is the story of a seventh grader named Maleeka. Maleeka has very dark black skin. She used to be proud of it, but when her father died, kids started picking on her. Char, the most popular girl in the grade, makes a deal with Maleeka that if she does her home work, Char will stick up for her, and Maleeka can hang out with her. A new teacher arrives, Miss Saunders. She too gets made fun of because she has a big blotch on her face, which is a birth mark. So far that's what I've read, I would recommend this book to anyone who likes books because I think at the end Maleeka will end up being proud of her skin.
